5 Things I Learned this Weekend - Florida FivePublished by
With the XC State Finals only a month and a half away, the picture that is Florida Cross Country is starting to become a lot clearer. Teams are starting to solidify themselves as favorites, while individuals are making huge statements of their own. Below are 5 things we observed through week 4 of the Florida Cross Country season.
1 – We have a new 3A favorite in Sukhi Khosla. At the Alligator Lake Invitational Sukhi beat the defending 3A state cross country and 3200 meter state champion in Thomas Howell and the defending 3A 1600 meter state champion Nicholas Morken. Sukhi’s margin of victory was 21 seconds over Morken and 23 seconds over Howell. Khosla also won the Carrollton XC Invitational in a time of 15:53. Carrollton rarely sees sub 16’s (37 unofficially in 7 years) and the kids who manage to break this barrier tend to fare very well at Foot Locker. 3 – 4A has a freshman phenom of their own! Kayley Delay of Fletcher High School won the 2013 Leslie Baker Invitational in 18:32 beating out her teammate Danielle Van Liere by 45 seconds. This frosh has PR’s of 5:22 and 2:25 from her middle school days.
